House Tour

Our house when we first purchased it.

Our house last summer after it's paint job and new windows

Here is a little tour and history about our house. We purchased it in October of 2006. It sat vacant for 18 months, but back in the day it was an assisted living house, followed by a "Home for Wayward Girls" Otherwise knows as a place for troubled teen girls to stay. The person who had purchased it before us thought it would be a great investment and was planning on flipping it. But how many people do you know that want a 10 bedroom monster house with 3300 square feet, 2 complete kitchens, 4 bathrooms, a maze of rooms downstairs, and some original 70's styling throughout? Needless to say she didn't get very far and wanted way too much money for the mess the house was. Not sure if we were overly ambitious, in a hurry to finally find a house, or just plain stupid, but we thought it was the perfect house for us. My dear hubby thought we could have the whole thing finished in 2 years. HA!

We have been in the house for 4-1/2 years now and still have the kitchen, 2 bathrooms  3 upstairs bedrooms to finish. But what we have accomplished is amazing, beautiful and perfect. There was a lot of fixing that had to be done. Fixing of ugly rooms, fixing f poor construction and fixing to make it a cohesive single family home again. We have made it into a normal 5 bedroom house with only 1 kitchen, a 2 car garage, family room downstairs, 3 bathrooms, and now only about 2900 square feet.

The downstairs family room when we first moved in.

Yes, there was a complete kitchen downstairs and upstairs. This one was nasty beyond belief! When we first moved in there were no appliances in the main kitchen so I had to cook down here and bring everything upstairs to the dining room for us to eat. That lasted about a month!

And after a few months of hard labor we removed the FAKE beams in the ceiling, and all the horrible cave-like panelling. It was truly creepy downstairs. We also removed the kitchen and
I don't have any furnished pictures of this area yet, because it's really not totally finished yet. But this is where that kitchen used to be.

Our living room before. Notice the ugly light in the entry way. And that small wall was crooked and had to be reinforced to straighten it.

Living Room mostly finished at Christmas time. New hardwood floors, paint, tiled straight mini wall, new centered light fixture & finally overhead lights in the living room!
Hallway with new white doors and beautiful flooring. All of which we installed ourselves of course! See more here
Needless to say there are so many more projects I haven't listed here, but I will post them soon. THose are the main living areas we have completed, other than both the kids' rooms and the downstairs bathroom, but I don't have good finished pictures of those rooms yet. I'll post them when I get them taken.
